You'll enjoy a very
high quality of life in Two Harbors, surrounded by the pristine
lakes, lush forests and spectacular seasonal finery of northeastern
Minnesota. The Northland offers something for everyone.
Two Harbors is located on the shore of Lake
Superior in a scenic, natural area composed of deep forests
and rugged coastlines. It is in close proximity of the Superior
National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
The two natural harbors, Agate Bay and Burlington
Bay, are the community's major assets. Ore boats can dock
to take on natural ore and taconite pellets destined for
the eastern manufacturing area.
Rock formations in the area are close to
ground level and consist primarily of an igneous type of
material known as Duluth Gabro. Within the Duluth Gabro
low grade copper and nickel deposits have been discovered.
There has been interest and exploration of area mineral
resources in recent years. In addition to copper and nickel,
other minerals such as gold may be discovered. Two Harbors
would make an attractive port for the shipping of these
minerals.
In addition to its mineral resources, the
area is abundant in timber. Besides many varieties of pine
and birch, large stands of aspen are available which have
considerable potential for a number of different wood working
uses.
Our area is also rich in wildlife as the
result of the extensive dominating forest reserves in close
proximity to the city. Big and small game animals are found
in the area. Fish in Lake Superior include lake trout, herring,
smelt and coho salmon. There are also many lakes, both cold
and warm water, within 50 miles of Two Harbors with an abundance
of lake trout, northern pike, walleye, bass, crappie, bluegills,
and sunfish. You can find maps, and fish abundance at the
